An investigation has been launched in Atyrau following an incident at the private nursery ‘Ansar’, where a five-year-old girl was injured. The child was hospitalised with serious injuries after suddenly developing a headache.

According to the Telegram channel ‘HALYQSTAN’, the girl’s mother received a call from the nursery saying her daughter had fallen ill. Staff at the facility explained this as a fall down the stairs. However, when the parents requested CCTV footage, they were told that the cameras were not working at the time.

Once at the hospital, the child was diagnosed with a closed head injury, concussion and fractures to both arms. According to available information, the girl faces a long period of treatment.

Following the incident, the nursery management’s contact details were removed from social media. The nursery’s Instagram page states that the facility is closed ‘for technical reasons’.

The police have confirmed that a criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Improper fulfilment of duties to ensure the safety of life and health of children’). Investigative actions are ongoing.

It will be recalled that in June, parents of children attending Nursery No. 21 ‘Gulder’ in Astana reported abuse by a nursery assistant. Over the course of six months, the children were subjected to systematic beatings.

Relatives claim that the teacher, head of the nursery and methodologist were aware of what was happening but took no action. Video evidence from the nursery’s internal cameras was shared on social media. The footage shows a woman in uniform hitting children on the head and body, and throwing them to the floor.
