Major Kanat Zhanaev of the Organised Crime Department of the Akmola Region Police, despite drunk driving with an expired driving licence, managed to avoid arrest, but not dismissal.

"Zh. is found guilty of committing an administrative offence under Part 6 of Article 608 (driving a vehicle by a driver under the influence of alcohol, narcotics and/or toxic substances) of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan; on the basis of Article 32 of the Administrative Code, he is released from administrative arrest. The case materials concerning Zh. shall be forwarded to the Police Department of the Akmola Region to resolve the issue of disciplinary liability", reports KazTag, citing the specialised inter-district court for administrative offences of Astana.

It is reported that the incident occurred on 4 May in Astana. At night, on one of the capital's streets, police stopped Zhanaev's car. During the check, they found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was also not entitled to drive a vehicle.

The law enforcement officers drew up an administrative report on him and sent the materials to court. The judge found him guilty, but the policeman was not subjected to administrative arrest.

"Kanat Zhanaev has been dismissed from the internal affairs bodies on negative grounds following the results of an internal investigation", said Gulnar Pinchuk, head of the press service of the police department.

Incidentally, it is reported that former police major Zhanaev had previously refused a bribe of 300 thousand tenge from the administrator of a massage parlour where intimate services were offered. For his firm civic stance, in February 2024, the head of the Akmola Region Police Department, Duman Tayev, awarded him a certificate of commendation.
