A criminal case has been opened following the large-scale leak of personal data belonging to approximately 16 million citizens of Kazakhstan, according to reports citing Deputy Prosecutor General Galymzhan Koigeldiev.

According to him, the criminal case was registered on the instructions of the Prosecutor General Berik Asylov.

"The criminal case has been handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for investigation. I cannot say more," added Koigeldiev.

It is worth recalling, the incident has been given the unofficial name "Residents of Kazakhstan 2024". According to Vice President of TSARKA Group, Yennlik Satiyeva, the scale of the leak covers virtually the entire population of the country.

Earlier, it was reported that the personal data of Arman Kenzhegaliev, chairman of the board of the state corporation "Government for Citizens", had become publicly available. Kenzhegaliev was among the 16 million Kazakhstanis whose personal information became accessible as a result of the large-scale leak.
