In the Kostanay region, control over water supply facilities in flooded territories has been strengthened. Sanitary and epidemiological monitoring of drinking water and food products has been organised here.
According to Ratel.kz, more than 300 samples were taken in the region's risk zones. Experts did not identify any non-compliance with the norms.
"Anthrax burials and livestock burial grounds are under special control of the veterinary services. As of today, there are no anthrax burials along the Tobol River or in the flooded territories near the river. There is no cause for concern for the region's residents regarding this," the report states.
At the same time, rumours that meltwater had entered livestock burial grounds were neither confirmed nor denied by the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control (DSEC) of the Kostanay region.
"We strongly advise boiling water until the flood is over. That includes tap water, water that citizens pass through jug filters, and water purchased from vending machines. For drinking and cooking, you should now use either boiled water or purchased bottled water. Do not consume products that have been soaked by meltwater. Personal hygiene rules must be observed," said Zauyre Yelshibayeva, Deputy Head of the regional DSEC.
According to her, the department, together with the National Centre of Expertise, is preparing for the necessary disinfection measures in flooded villages.
"These will be carried out after the water recedes and the situation stabilises. Regarding livestock burial grounds and anthrax burials that may be flooded, I can say that sample collection in those places will only be possible once the water is gone. Only then will we be able to assess the situation and decide whether it is necessary to carry out anti-epidemic disinfection measures jointly with the veterinary service and local executive bodies," said the Deputy Head of the DSEC.
Meanwhile, residents of the flooded regions report that the carcasses of domestic animals, stocks of fertilisers and seed dressings, manure, and the like are currently floating in the meltwater.
