In the Karasu District of the Kostanay Region, where the state of emergency has yet to be lifted, efforts continue to deal with the aftermath of the flood. Water from several lakes has flooded the district's road infrastructure, and power lines have also ended up underwater.
According to ORDA, a 14 km long diversion channel has been built in the district to divert the water that flooded a regional road.
"Rescuers and local executive bodies have begun a controlled discharge of meltwater from Lake Alabata into the Kunduzdy River, with an approximate volume of 250 million cubic metres. A specially prepared channel, 14 km long, up to 14 m deep and up to 5 m wide, is being used to divert the water, through which it flows into the Kunduzdy River and then into the Obagan River", reported the Akimat of the Kostanay Region.
It has become known that after the spring flood, five lakes merged into one large body of water, which flooded the roads. Residents of the Karasu District now have to take a detour through the neighbouring district to reach the regional centre.
At the same time, to ensure safety in the village of Novoselovka, located 3 km from the Kunduzdy River, the authorities have organised a duty rota for staff from the Department for Emergency Situations, local executive bodies, the police department, and the ambulance service.
"The situation is being monitored by about 20 rescuers, with 7 pieces of equipment, as well as 2 unmanned aerial vehicles and 3 motorised watercraft deployed", the statement said.
It is expected that the controlled water discharge will minimise the risk of potential flooding in residential areas.
Recall that in July, Prime Minister Bektenov held a meeting on the restoration of housing and infrastructure after the floods, where he noted that some regions were 15-25 days behind schedule. Later, he visited the west of the country to check the progress of building houses for those affected by the flood.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the government of Kazakhstan additionally allocated 22.7 billion tenge from the emergency reserve to eliminate the consequences of the floods and restore destroyed infrastructure facilities.
It was noted that the funds would be directed to the akimats for the restoration and construction of roads and bridges, as well as culverts in the Akmola, Aktobe, Kostanay and North Kazakhstan regions.
