The former akim of the Makat district in the Atyrau region, Rinat Ibragimov, has been sentenced for assaulting his wife.
According to the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was charged with intentionally causing moderate harm to the health of a person who was financially or otherwise dependent on the perpetrator.
"On 31 May 2023 in Atyrau, an argument broke out in the apartment between I.R. and his wife, U.A. During the conflict, I.R., taking advantage of the victim's financial dependence on him, started a row on this basis, grabbed his wife U.A. by the right shoulder, led her into the room, and closed the door behind them. Having made sure that no one would disturb him, with the intention of deliberately causing harm to her health, he threw U.A. to the floor and kicked her several times in the area of her left thigh, as a result of which the victim U.A. suffered moderate harm to her health in the form of a fracture of the 5th vertebra, without displacement", the court ruling states.
Ultimately, the court found Ibragimov guilty and sentenced him to 2 years of restricted freedom. The victim's civil claim for compensation for moral damages in the amount of 20 million tenge was partially satisfied. The former akim was ordered to pay 2 million tenge in compensation to the victim.
Let us recall that earlier, the wife of the former akim, Akmara Umbetkaliyeva, stated that her husband Rinat Ibragimov had been assaulting her for 11 years and had even taken their children away. The woman claimed that in May 2023, Ibragimov raised his hand to her once again. Incidentally, he is a well-known athlete and judoka who competed in the Beijing and London Olympics.
Shortly before this, it became known that the wife of the UAE ambassador's advisor, Saken Mamash — Karina Mamash — had accused him of systematic physical and sexual violence over a period of 10 years. It was later reported that after the woman's statement, the diplomat was suspended from his post and a criminal case was opened.
