The former deputy mayor of Shymkent, Maksut Isakhov, has been convicted of an attempted bribe. 

According to the press service of the Shymkent courts, he attempted to bribe the first deputy head of the KNB with $200,000.

"The court found I. guilty of attempting to give a bribe on an especially large scale, applying part 2 of Article 55 and part 3 of Article 56 of the Criminal Code, and sentenced him to 8 years, 5 months, and 7 days of imprisonment, with a lifetime ban on holding positions in the civil service", the statement reads.

In addition, a submission was made to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to strip Isakhov of his state award – the Order of Kurmet

Recall that the detention of the former deputy mayor became known in July of last year.
