Deputy head of the ecology department of the East Kazakhstan Region convicted for a $30,000 bribe

In Oskemen, a sentence has been handed down to the deputy head of the East Kazakhstan Region ecology department, Rauan Turarov.

According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, he was found guilty of receiving a bribe from a local entrepreneur. The bribe of $30,000 was intended to avoid administrative liability for building a gold mining plant without an environmental permit.

The court sentenced Turarov to 7 years in prison with a lifetime ban on holding positions in the civil service and the quasi-public sector.

Recall that in July 2024, Anti-Corruption officers detained the acting head of the East Kazakhstan Region ecology department, Mamai Butabayev, while he was receiving a bribe of 10 million tenge.

In December, in Oskemen, the head of the East Kazakhstan Region ecology department, Daniyar Aliyev, was convicted of corruption.
