The head of the pre-trial detention centre in Atyrau escaped with a fine and loss of rank for taking a bribe.

In court No.2 of Atyrau, a criminal case was heard against the acting head of "Institution No.75" of the Department of the Criminal Executive System (DCES). He was accused of receiving a bribe.

According to the press service of the department, he was bribed by being given  1 million tenge in exchange for not transferring the bribe-giver's brother to prison and keeping him in the pre-trial detention centre to perform maintenance work.

"The case was received under an accelerated pre-trial investigation, and due to the fact that the defendant fully admits his guilt, does not dispute the relevance and admissibility of the evidence gathered in the case and does not insist on its examination in a court hearing, the trial was conducted in a shortened procedure", the statement said.

The defendant fully admitted his guilt and asked for a lenient sentence. 

The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 30 million tenge with lifetime disqualification from holding positions in the civil service and state organisations. In addition, the convicted person was stripped of the rank of 'Lieutenant Colonel of Justice'.

Recall that earlier it was reported that employees of the DCES of Almaty were suspected of abuse of official powers, exceeding authority and accepting a bribe.

In July it became known that court No.2 of Ust-Kamenogorsk passed a sentence on the deputy head of the DCES for the East Kazakhstan Region K.A. Ziyanov He was found guilty of abuse of official powers. It is reported that he facilitated the creation of favourable and privileged conditions for serving the sentence for a convicted person – the former head of LLP 'Operator ROP' M. Kumargaliyev.

In August, the head of the DCES for the North Kazakhstan Region Adlet Mustafinov was found guilty of receiving a bribe from an entrepreneur for assistance in concluding a public procurement contract. He received the sum of 1 million tenge through an intermediary. The court found Mustafinov guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 30 million tenge.
