In the Almaty region, a criminal case has been opened against the deputy head of colony No. 57, Nurlan Bidaibekov. According to media reports, he is suspected of taking a bribe. The case has already been sent to court.
"He was detained on 31 May. The investigation is complete. On Monday, 10 June, the case was transferred to the Konayev City Court under Part 1 of Article 366 (taking a bribe) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the statement says.
Shortly before this, other media outlets reported that Bidaibekov was detained by officers from the National Security Committee and the prosecutor's office. At the same time, the report stated that he was suspected of extorting money from convicts.
For context, earlier the Almaty region prosecutor's office uncovered serious violations in correctional facilities in the region. It was reported that inmates were using mobile phones to make online purchases, take out loans, and participate in gambling through bookmakers and online casinos, where the total cash turnover amounted to more than 3 billion tenge.
