The Prosecutor General's Office has sent a statement from businessman Nurlan Bimurzin to the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM). He accuses the former president's daughter Aliya Nazarbayeva and the wife of the former chairman of the Constitutional Council Valentina Rogova of seizing a business worth $170 million.
According to media reports, in February businessman Bimurzin stated that Aliya Nazarbayeva seized his business in the form of 7 oil depots and 96 petrol stations in 2003.
"In short, what I want to tell you is that my partner Medgat Kaliyev and I have been waiting for this moment for 20 years. For all 20 years we feared for the lives and health of our family and loved ones. Because the main threat was to them. You all know very well the position the Nazarbayev family held in Kazakhstan, especially Aliya Nazarbayeva. Therefore, today we believe that justice must prevail. On 19 February we filed a statement with the Prosecutor General's Office, which has now been passed down the hierarchy to the Asset Recovery Committee," the businessman stated.
In turn, public figure Zharkyn Kurentayev said that the asset worth $170 million was valued at just 19,000 tenge at the time.
"It is difficult to give all the details now, because the investigation must first look into the matter. But people have spent 20 years gathering evidence of illegal actions, 20 years. At that time, the asset worth 170 million dollars was listed as a fictitious 19,000 tenge. Even if they had given the 19,000 tenge to the people, that would have been something. But they didn't even give that 19,000. There are many legal intricacies here," the public figure reported.
