Police department employees of the Mangistau region, with the assistance of the regional akimat, have detained three residents of the Munaily district suspected of drug-related offences. Among them are the deputy akim of the Munaily district and the deputy akim of the village of Atameken.
According to the press service of the regional akimat, a pre-trial investigation has been launched against those detained.
The deputy akim of the district has been placed in a temporary detention facility, while restraint measures are being selected for the other individuals involved. The seized drugs have been sent for expert examination, and the necessary investigative actions are underway.
The detention took place as part of the operational preventive operation 'Karasora-2025' conducted by the department for combating drug crime.
"The strictest measures in accordance with current legislation will be taken against persons found to have violated the law. Purging the ranks of the civil service of dishonest employees is a priority task of the akimat," a statement from the akimat said.
It will be recalled that earlier in Almaty, the largest single consignment of cocaine in the country's history, weighing 13 tonnes 183 kg, was seized. It was reported that the cargo was intended for further transit through the territory of Kazakhstan to other countries. Two foreign nationals were detained on suspicion of involvement in organising the drug trafficking channel.
