Since the beginning of the year, 377 unscheduled inspections have been carried out at construction sites in Almaty, and 211 orders have been issued to rectify violations. Last year, 1074 inspections were carried out and 634 orders were issued.

"Since the beginning of 2023, 206 lawsuits have been filed in the courts for violations of building regulations, with proceedings in 100 of these ongoing to this day," reported zakon.kz, citing the press service of the Almaty akimat.

It was also noted that lawsuits have been filed in court against 45 structures that were illegally built in mountainous areas, with the claims in 36 cases being upheld.

"Overall, as a result of the city's litigation activity since 2023, 28 illegal structures have been demolished, including business centres, restaurants, extensions and car repair shops, as well as large residential complexes such as 'Mechta' and 'KHAN'," the statement said.

At the same time, the akimat reminded that back in June 2022, the city maslikhat approved a ban on construction on sites with a slope gradient of more than 15 degrees.

"The adopted changes are reflected in the general plan of the city of Almaty until 2040 and in new detailed planning projects, into which a number of proposals have been incorporated following public discussions with city residents and experts. One of these is the reclassification of more than 4,270 hectares of land in the foothills as recreational zones, where construction is also prohibited," the akimat reported.

It was noted that in 2022, permission to construct 36 structures in the foothills was denied, in 2023 – 89, and in the current year – 32.

Recall, it was previously reported that the Mechta residential complex, which was illegally built on the site of an apple orchard in the foothills of the Kamenskoe Plateau in Almaty, was demolished.
