According to the press service of the Almaty Akimat, five illegally constructed buildings were demolished in the city's mountainous area. This was announced at a meeting on regulating construction in the foothills of Almaty.
It was also reported that in 2022, permission to construct 36 buildings in the foothills was refused, in 2023 89 were refused, and in the current year 32 have been refused.
"As of today, not all developers are complying with design solutions. And, as practice shows, some only carry out engineering-geological surveys of the soil to obtain the permits. Of the 54 identified cases of illegal construction in the mountainous area, 46 lawsuits were filed in court, 30 of which were resolved in favour of the city, and for 5 of them the buildings have been demolished to date," the statement said.
The Akimat also reminded that, on the instructions of the city's mayor, Yerbolat Dossayev, control over construction on mountain slopes and foothills in Almaty has been tightened. It was also reported that more than 4,270 hectares have been reclassified as recreational zones.
"In June 2022, the city maslikhat approved changes initiated by the Akimat to the Plan for Implementing Urban Development Regulations for the Construction of Functional Zones of the Territory, prohibiting construction on plots with a slope gradient of more than 15 degrees. The adopted changes are reflected in the Almaty General Plan until 2040 and in new detailed planning projects, into which a number of proposals were introduced following public discussions with city residents and experts. One of them is the reclassification of more than 4,270 hectares of land in the foothills as recreational zones," the Akimat press service reported.
Following the meeting, Yerbolat Dossayev instructed district akimats, architectural bodies, and construction supervision authorities to ensure monitoring of foothill territories for unauthorised construction.
Recall that earlier it was reported that the residential complex "Mechta", which was illegally built on the site of an apple orchard in the foothills of the Kamenskoe Plateau in Almaty, was demolished.
