In Stepnogorsk, the head of a correctional facility was convicted for attempted fraud.
According to the press service of the courts of the Akmola Region, a convict serving a sentence in the Stepnogorsk correctional facility filed a petition for parole with the court, which was under consideration.
The head of the facility, knowing this, misled him by claiming that he could facilitate a positive outcome for 6 million tenge. Furthermore, the suspect intimidated the convict by stating that if he did not hand over the money, his parole would be denied.
The convict reported the facility head's demands to law enforcement authorities. He was then arrested while receiving the money.
“B.’s guilt was proven by his confession, the testimony of the victim and witnesses, covert investigative actions, a video recording of B.’s search, recordings from the facility's CCTV cameras, and other case materials,” the report states.
During the investigation, the victim was fully compensated for the damages. The court found the facility head guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 45 million tenge. Additionally, he was permanently banned from holding positions in public service.
Recall that in July, it became known that Court No. 2 of Ust-Kamenogorsk sentenced the deputy head of the Department of the Criminal Executive System (DCES) for the East Kazakhstan Region, K.A. Ziyanov. He was found guilty of abuse of official position. It is reported that he facilitated the creation of favourable and privileged conditions for the serving of the sentence of a convict – the former head of LLP "Operator ROP" M. Kumargaliyev.
In August, in the Ulytau Region, military personnel and employees of the Committee of the Criminal Executive System (CCES) were convicted for the use of torture. The head of the facility and his deputy were each sentenced to 6.6 years' imprisonment. Five facility employees and four military personnel received sentences of between 4 and 4.5 years' imprisonment.
In October, in Karaganda, a verdict was passed on a senior detective of the DCES for the Karaganda and Ulytau Regions for torturing a convict.
