In Petropavlovsk, the chairman of the specialised inter-district economic court of the North Kazakhstan Region has been detained. According to the press service of the Supreme Court, he was caught receiving a bribe.

"As a result of a joint operation by the National Security Committee and the Internal Security Department of the Judicial Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Petropavlovsk, the chairman of the specialised inter-district economic court of the North Kazakhstan Region, B., was caught red-handed receiving a large bribe of $15,000 for a favourable court decision in the interests of the party concerned," the statement reads.

It will be recalled that in October, information appeared online about the detention of former judge of the Medeu District Court of Almaty, Svetlana Zholmanova. She is suspected of committing fraud against several victims.

Incidentally, the fact that Zholmanova was suspected of fraud became known back in April 2021. At that time, during a search of her office, $10,000 was seized from her.

Later, by order of the Chairman of the Supreme Court, the judge's powers were suspended. In 2023, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dismissed her.

In mid-October, it was reported that in Almaty, a judge of the inter-district court for administrative offences, Dastan Slyamkulov, was detained. He is suspected of repeatedly receiving bribes. Furthermore, five employees of the Almaty Police Department are being investigated as suspected accomplices, three of whom are police officers from the Zhetysu district.

In November, in Uralsk, while receiving a bribe, the chairman of the city court, Ruslan Zhumagulov, was detained. It was reported that the bribe of 1.5 million tenge was intended for a favourable decision to replace the criminal sentence of a convict with a fine.

In mid-December, the Anti-Corruption Service completed its investigation into a judge of the Inter-District Criminal Court of Shymkent. A number of other individuals are also involved in the case alongside him. They are suspected of fraud and inciting the defendant's spouse to offer a bribe. The bribe of 110 million tenge was intended to secure a lighter sentence during the passing of the verdict.
