In Almaty, Yerzhan Kuldeyev, Vice-Rector of the Kazakh National Research Technical University named after Satpayev (Satbayev University), has been detained. Since 7 September, he has held the status of a suspect in a criminal case, and his actions have been preliminarily classified as bribery.
WHAT IS KNOWN
According to the Telegram channel "Kozachkov offside", the Vice-Rector of Satbayev University, Yerzhan Kuldeyev, has been detained in Almaty. Since 7 September, he has been recognised as a suspect in a criminal case.
According to preliminary data, his actions have been classified as bribery. The investigation is being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Service of the National Security Committee (SPK KNB).
According to a source, the classification of the case may still change — the investigation is considering the possibility of applying additional articles.
WHO IS YERZHAN KULDEYEV
Yerzhan Kuldeyev is a Kazakhstani scientist, mining geophysicist, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Professor. Since 1995, his professional career has been linked to the Kazakh National Research Technical University named after K. I. Satpayev. At the university, he rose from lecturer and associate professor to head of department and vice-rector.
In 2016–2021, Kuldeyev worked as Deputy Director General of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation, and since 2021 he has once again been part of the leadership of Satbayev University.
WHAT HE IS KNOWN FOR IN THE SCIENTIFIC FIELD
Kuldeyev's scientific work is related to geophysics and hydrogeology. In 2025, he was among the laureates of the Al-Farabi State Prize in the Field of Science and Technology for his work on the "Atlas of Hydrogeological Maps of the Republic of Kazakhstan".
In his official Satbayev University profile, his awards also include the order "Qurmet" and the medal "Yeren Yenbegi Ushin".
