A citizen of Kazakhstan was detained in Almaty while receiving a large batch of synthetic drugs. The operation was carried out by the National Security Committee (NSC) jointly with the law enforcement agencies of a foreign state. The action targeted the disruption of a methamphetamine smuggling channel.
HOW THE OPERATION UNFOLDED
According to the NSC, the international anti-drug operation was carried out in January 2026 in cooperation with the competent authorities of a foreign state.
As a result of the joint operation, a citizen of Kazakhstan was detained in the city of Almaty. According to the intelligence service, he was arrested while in possession of 8 kg of the synthetic substance ‘methamphetamine’.
UNDER WHICH ARTICLE IS THE CASE BEING INVESTIGATED
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted into this incident under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“Illegal acquisition, storage, transportation or sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances”).
By court order, the suspect has been remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
