In Shymkent, a court has sentenced the former chief IT specialist of the local branch of JSC "Kazpost", Qanybek A. He was found guilty of embezzling entrusted property on a large scale.

According to Ratel.kz, the defendant had access to the office warehouse where large postal items, including equipment and machinery, were stored. At the beginning of last year, a batch of personal computers, printers, and components arrived at the branch warehouse from two private companies.

As the investigation established, over the course of a month, the man removed 39 printers and 20 personal computers from the warehouse. He sold the equipment at reduced prices through classified advertisement websites. The police were unable to identify all the buyers of the stolen property.

Following a visit from inspectors who discovered the shortage, an internal audit was launched at the branch. Specialists assessed the damage at 9.7 million tenge.

A criminal case was initiated on the fact of theft under Article 189, Part 3, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Misappropriation or embezzlement of entrusted another's property on a large scale"). During the investigation, the accused pleaded guilty, fully compensated for the damage caused, and reached a settlement with the injured party. Representatives of "Kazpost" have no claims against him.

In the end, the inter-district criminal court of Shymkent sentenced him to 2.5 years of restriction of liberty with probation supervision. The court also ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service annually for the duration of the sentence.

Recall that in April of last year, in the Turkestan region, a sentence was passed on a postal employee, Bolat Kerimkulov. He was accused of embezzling 69.8 million tenge from the branch of JSC "Kazpost" in the Kazygurt district.

In September, in the Almaty region, two cashiers of JSC "Kazpost" were convicted. The investigation established that they had been appropriating part of the paid state fees by forging receipts. This criminal scheme operated from 2021 to 2023 during the processing of passports and identity cards. The amount of damage exceeded 80 million tenge.
