Social projects financed with 12 billion tenge returned to the state have begun in Kazakhstan, with funds planned to be allocated from the Special State Fund.
"As part of the ongoing work on the return of assets, four agreements have been signed with registry subjects for the implementation of social projects worth 12 billion tenge," the press service of the asset return committee reported.
According to the department, one of the planned projects is the construction of a centre of modern culture in Almaty.
"It will cover an area of more than three thousand square metres and will include specialised and universal halls, featuring exhibition spaces, educational platforms and leisure areas," the statement said.
It is expected that after the centre launches, its premises will host free rehearsals and master classes for visitors from socially vulnerable segments of the population.
In addition, the returned funds are planned to be used to build a multi-storey residential building in Shymkent, with flats to be provided to families in need.
It was previously reported that funds for the construction of a sports complex in the village of Zerenda, Akmola Region, and a music school in the village of Temirlan, Turkistan Region, are planned to be allocated from the Special State Fund, which currently holds 177 billion tenge in returned state funds.
In May last year, it became known that in Atyrau, 6 billion tenge confiscated from corrupt officials would be used to finance the construction of two schools with 600 places each.
In April, it was reported that the construction of 69 educational institutions would be completed using money from corrupt officials. Part of these funds was intended to be directed towards the construction of schools in the Turkistan Region.
