Assets worth over 6 trillion have been returned to the state

Since the beginning of the year, the Anti-Corruption Agency has recovered around 195 billion tenge through completed criminal cases. In total, over the last 2.5 years, 1.09 trillion tenge has been returned to the state.

The agency's press service recalled that the Anti-Corruption Agency had previously reported the transfer to the state of real estate properties returned by the former president's nephew, Kairat Satybaldy, as compensation for damages.

It has become known that among these is the Kaisar Tower business centre in Almaty, valued at over 7.9 billion tenge, the building of which was transferred to the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University. 

In addition, an administrative building worth over 800 million tenge was transferred to the balance of the State Institution 'T. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts'.

In the capital, three mansions worth over 5 billion tenge were transferred to the State Institution 'Office of Psychological and Pedagogical Correction' of the Akimat of Astana for children with disabilities.

It was previously reported that the total amount of assets returned in criminal cases concerning Kairat Satybaldy amounts to 732.8 billion tenge. These include:

  • 28.8% of shares in JSC 'Kazakhtelecom' - 93.8 billion tenge.  
  • JSC 'CTS' - 30.2 billion tenge.  
  • Equity stakes in four companies - 10.3 billion tenge.  
  • Property assets in Kazakhstan - 158.5 billion tenge.  
  • Exclusive jewellery - 105.39 billion tenge ($230 million).  
  • Money in Kazakh bank accounts - 36.8 billion tenge.  
  • Money from Austria - 36.8 billion tenge ($82.1 million).  
  • Money from Liechtenstein - 116.7 billion tenge ($260.5 million).  
  • Money from the UAE - 6.3 billion tenge ($14 million).  
  • Money from Turkey - 2.2 billion tenge ($4.92 million).  
  • Sale of securities - 135.8 billion tenge ($300 million). 

Furthermore, in the criminal case against former Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Timur Toktabaev, convicted of abuse of official powers, the unique Shevchenkovskoye deposit in the Kostanay region, with large reserves of nickel and cobalt, was transferred to the state. The enterprise is valued at over 5.6 trillion tenge.
