A verdict has been handed down in Almaty for individuals who placed children with special needs and orphans on holiday at a bathhouse complex.
According to zakon.kz, the court established that a chief specialist in public procurement at the Almaty Education Department, in order to obtain a bribe from a service provider, recognised their limited liability partnership as the winner of the tender to organise summer holidays for children.
As a result, the court convicted the chief specialist of attempting to receive a large bribe, using their official position. They were sentenced to 6 years imprisonment with a lifelong ban from holding positions in public service.
The head of the service provider company was convicted of attempting to commit fraud on an especially large scale, through deception and abuse of trust. She was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. Mitigating circumstances for the convicted individuals included a first offence, having minor dependants, and showing remorse.
Recall that earlier, it became known that in Almaty, children from socially vulnerable groups were placed in a sauna building instead of a countryside children's camp.
Later, the FBRA editorial team discovered that the company which housed the children was Belrichi LLP (founder - Kenzhegali Toleu). The camp director at the time was a certain Gulnar Nurgaziyeva.
