The Pavlodar court convicted the director and chief specialist of the branch of «KazAvtoZhol» for accepting a bribe.
According to the court press service, in June 2023, Director A.M. and chief specialist of «KazAvtoZhol» O.Z., under threat of not signing the certificates of completed work and terminating the contract for the maintenance of the «Pavlodar - Astana» motorway, received 4 million tenge as a bribe from a contractor.
«The guilt of the defendants was proven by the testimony of the victim and witnesses, conclusions of forensic examinations, physical and documentary evidence. A.M. was also charged in connection with this incident with abuse of official powers under Article 361, Part 4, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan», the statement reads.
The court took into account the presence of young children and sentenced the company director to 8 years in prison, while the chief specialist received 7 years in prison.
A.M. was acquitted on the charge of abuse of official powers due to lack of evidence of involvement in the crime. It is reported that the verdict has not yet come into legal force.
It will be recalled that earlier it was reported that the Anti-Corruption Service of the Zhambyl Region is conducting a pre-trial investigation against officials of the regional branch of «KazAvtoZhol» regarding the embezzlement of budget funds during the construction of the «Kordai» checkpoint. The preliminary amount of damage totalled more than 194 million tenge.
