In Almaty, potholes have appeared on the transport interchange at the intersection of Bukhtarma Street and the Kuldzha Highway. On social media, residents are bewildered as to why defects in the road surface have appeared on a recently completed facility.

As reported by the press service of the city akimat, citing the Almaty City Mobility Department, traffic on the overpass was opened in 2021. However, since the interchange was only commissioned in October 2023, the facility remains under warranty until 2026.

As a result, after an initial inspection, the construction company ‘Bazis Construction’ has been obliged to repair the section at its own expense.

‘According to preliminary data, defects in the asphalt concrete surface arose due to the peeling of the waterproofing material. An excavation of the damaged section will be carried out to determine the exact causes. The company, Bazis Construction LLP, has been instructed to carry out remedial works within the next 10 days at its own expense under the warranty obligations,’ the statement said.

At the same time, the department noted that temporary repairs have been made to the defective section to ensure traffic safety.

For context, earlier, 1.6 billion tenge was recovered from K-Dorstroy JSC. The joint-stock company had committed to carrying out major repairs to the runway of the ‘Zhetygen’ airfield in the Ili District of the Almaty Region, but failed to fulfil the terms of the contract.
