Media reports that operatives of the Anti-Corruption Service of the West Kazakhstan Region have detained Asset Kaliyev, Chairman of the Board - Rector of the NJSC «Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University», and conducted a search of his home.
According to Ratel.kz, he is suspected of receiving a bribe of 12 million tenge. The regional Anti-Corruption Service and the prosecutor's office have not yet commented on this news.
It is reported that Asset Kaliyev is a Doctor of Medical Sciences. Over the years, he has worked as a surgeon, head of a department at the Aktobe emergency hospital, and assistant professor at the Department of Surgery of the Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan State Medical University.
From 2008 to 2014, he held the positions of chief specialist, head of department, and deputy head of the healthcare department of the Aktobe Region akimat. From 2014 to 2020, he was head of the healthcare department of the Aktobe Region akimat.
From July to September 2020, he held the position of advisor to the akim of the Zhambyl Region on healthcare issues. From September 2020, he headed the healthcare department of the Zhambyl Region. Kaliyev has been awarded the medal «Yeren enbegi ushin» and the badge of «Honoured Healthcare Worker».
In September 2022, Kaliyev became rector of the Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University.
