The Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) for the West Kazakhstan Region is investigating the theft of budget funds from the State Public Enterprise "West Kazakhstan Industrial College". The director of the institution is suspected of organising the fictitious enrolment of dozens of students.

According to the agency's press service, the college director organised the fictitious enrolment of 54 people who did not attend the learning process. Despite this, they were listed in the documentation as active students. Attendance records and progress reports were made for them, and fictitious grades were assigned.

Furthermore, bank accounts were opened in these individuals' names, into which scholarships — in some cases, enhanced scholarships — were transferred.

According to the AFM, the bank cards were given to the director or other individuals on his instruction to cash out the funds.

The damage to the state is preliminarily estimated at more than 49 million tenge. A measure of restraint in the form of house arrest has been chosen for the director. His apartment has been seized by court order.

Recall that previously in the Terektinsky district of the West Kazakhstan Region, two employees of the state institution "Centralised Library System" were sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment suspended for the theft of approximately 46 million tenge intended for employee salaries.
