The metropolitan department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA) is conducting an investigation into officials of the State Institution "International School 81 Astana English School" of the Akimat of Astana on charges of embezzling budget funds.

According to the agency's press service, the former director and chief accountant of the school are suspected of embezzling more than 900 million tenge.

It is reported that part of this sum was received from parents as payment for tuition in pre-school classes and attendance at a summer camp.

In addition, the suspects transferred around 16 million tenge to the accounts of people who were not actually working for the organisation. Among them were relatives of the suspects.

With the proceeds of the crime, the defendants purchased property worth 382 million tenge: a cottage, two apartments, and a car. By court order, the property has been seized. The suspects have been placed in custody.

Earlier in Aktobe, as reported, the chief accountant of two schools was sentenced. It was stated that she had inflated her own salary and received money through employees, whom she asked to return the overpaid funds. The total amount of damage exceeded 40 million tenge.
