Activists returned construction waste from company NAK to its office.

In Astana, activists from the public movement "Zhana Adamdar" held a protest against an unauthorised landfill at the intersection of Turan Street and Uly Dala Avenue. According to them, the 8.6-hectare rubbish dump has existed near residential complexes for several months, despite appeals to the akimat and complaints from local residents.

In their Telegram channel, the activists reported that construction waste is regularly dumped on the landfill site.

"For several months, activists conducted raids, recorded video evidence, spoke with KAMAZ drivers who were dumping rubbish on the site, talked to local residents, and documented the situation," the statement said.

It has become known that responsibility for the site lies with the company "Nur Astana Kurylys" (NAK), which has been repeatedly complained about by environmentalists and city residents.

The protesters delivered some of the waste to the developer's office by bicycle, placing a sign on the bags that read: "Rubbish from NAK — to the NAK office. Clear up your landfill!".

"With this, the activists emphasised: if a problem is ignored, it returns directly. Respect for the city begins with accountability for the consequences of one's actions," the statement said.

During the handover of the appeal and a conversation with the holding company's manager, Serikzhan Mukhtarov, representatives of "Zhana Adamdar" were detained by police officers to clarify the circumstances.

However, the activists managed to convey the public's position and received a response from the company — the landfill was promised to be eliminated by October 2025.

"The Antitrash civil campaign calls on the company 'Nur Astana Kurylys' to bring order to its sites and prove that loud slogans about environmental friendliness are not just words, but concrete actions," the activists concluded.

Recall that in December last year, activists from the public movement "Zhana Adamdar" created a portrait of the deputy akim of Astana's Yesil district, Madiyar Nugerbekov, using rubbish on the site of one of the unauthorised landfills, for which the authorities plan to allocate funds only by 2028.
