80 million tenge stolen by cashiers of Kazpost in the Almaty region

The Prosecutor's Office of the Almaty Region has uncovered multi-million tenge embezzlement at JSC Kazpost.

"The Prosecutor's Office of the Almaty Region, based on an analysis of revenue from paid public services, has identified cases of misappropriation of budget funds at JSC Kazpost," the press service of the department reported.

During the investigation, it was established that cashiers at JSC Kazpost had been appropriating part of the paid state duties by forging receipts. It was noted that the criminal scheme operated from 2021 to 2023 during the processing of passports and identity cards. The amount of damage exceeded 80 million tenge.

"By court verdict, 2 cashiers were found guilty of committing theft of property on an especially large scale (Article 189, Part 4, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code) and were sentenced to imprisonment with a ban on holding financially responsible and managerial positions," the statement said.

Earlier, the security service and the audit and control department of JSC Kazpost in a number of regions identified financial violations totalling 396.7 million tenge

Furthermore, it was reported that in the Turkestan region, a sentence was handed down to a 39-year-old postal employee, Bolat Kerimkulov. He was accused of embezzling 69.8 million tenge at the branch of JSC Kazpost in the Kazygurt district. 

The court found Kerimkulov guilty of embezzlement on an especially large scale and sentenced him to 8 years in prison. At the same time, the court issued a ruling to verify the legality of terminating the investigation against former accounting employees of the district postal branch.
