In the Zhetysu region, a sentence has been announced for officials of the Taldykorgan education department.
According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, they were convicted of creating and participating in an organised criminal group with the aim of embezzling budget funds. It has come to light that the criminal group operated in the territory of Taldykorgan from January 2020 to March 2023.
It is reported that its members embezzled more than 4.5 billion tenge by transferring salaries to individuals not working in the education sector, as well as to their own personal accounts.
As a result, the organiser of the criminal group was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and its members received between 9 and 13 years of imprisonment.
At the same time, the convicted individuals have been banned from holding positions in public service for life. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
For context, it was previously reported that the Anti-Corruption Agency had completed its investigation into officials of the Taldykorgan education department. It was stated that they are accused of creating an OCG consisting of 13 members.
Later, in the Zhetysu region, a sentence was announced for the head of the Taldykorgan education department, Zh. Dzholdykhanov. He was found guilty of accepting a bribe of 280 million tenge from the chief accountant of the same department. The bribe was intended for "covering up facts of embezzlement of budget funds and preventing dismissal from work". In the end, Dzholdykhanov was sentenced to 11 years in prison with a lifelong ban on holding positions in public service.
