The chief accountant of a gymnasium in Almaty has been convicted of embezzlement. She was accused of stealing 23 million tenge between 2019 and 2023, which had been allocated for the needs of the educational institution.

According to the press service of the Almaty courts, she transferred the money to accounts registered in her name and that of a third party.

It is reported that the defendant pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and partially compensated for the damage. She asked not to be deprived of her freedom. The court found the chief accountant guilty and sentenced her to 7 years in a penal colony.

Recall that in January, it was reported that the Anti-Corruption Service of Almaty, together with the Almaty branch of the republican public association «Ädildik joly», identified financial violations at secondary school No.141. The accountant of that school is suspected of embezzling budget funds from 2019 to 2023 and causing damage to the state in the amount of 57,773,400 tenge.

In February, it became known that the Anti-Corruption Service of the Almaty region is conducting a pre-trial investigation into the head of the State Institution «Education Department of the Ili District of the Almaty Region»

She is suspected of embezzling 680 million tenge. The investigation believes that she paid wages to fictitious employees who were supposedly working in secondary schools in the Ili District.
