In Pavlodar, a ground collapse occurred during excavation work, leaving five people trapped under the rubble. As a result of the incident, two workers died, and three others were injured.
WHAT HAPPENED

According to the Department of Emergency Situations (DES) of Pavlodar Region, the incident occurred during the afternoon of 13 April while pipe repairs were being carried out. Workers were conducting excavation work in a deep trench when its walls collapsed.
The DES reported that the depth of the collapse was approximately 6 metres.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, and rescue workers and firefighters were also called in to assist.
HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE INJURED

A total of five people were trapped under the rubble. Before the arrival of rescue workers, colleagues freed one of them. Two others were extracted by DES personnel.
The victims were examined by specialists from the Centre for Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), after which they were handed over to ambulance crews for hospitalisation. According to available information, one man has been released to go home, while two are in intensive care in a serious condition.
The other two workers could not be saved.
"As a result of the incident, rescue workers recovered the bodies of two people from under the rubble. The circumstances of what happened are being established," the statement said.
INVESTIGATION FOLLOWING THE INCIDENT

An investigation has been launched into the incident. Police are checking whether safety requirements for excavation work were observed at the site.
