In 15 populated areas of Kazakhstan, a high and very high level of air pollution was recorded in April 2026. Specialists conducted atmospheric air monitoring in 68 cities and towns across the country.

WHICH CITIES WERE INCLUDED IN THE LIST WITH HIGH POLLUTION

According to RSE «Kazhydromet», a very high level of air pollution was recorded in Karaganda and Petropavlovsk.

The following were classified as having a high level of pollution:

  • Almaty
  • Astana
  • Aktobe
  • Atyrau
  • Pavlodar
  • Ust-Kamenogorsk
  • Temirtau

Also in this category were Ridder, Abai, Satpayev, Turkestan, Talgar and the village of Shubarshi.

WHERE ELEVATED POLLUTION LEVELS WERE NOTED

Specialists also registered elevated air pollution in several other large cities:

  • Shymkent
  • Aktau
  • Kostanay
  • Semey
  • Zhezkazgan
  • Taldykorgan

The list also included Balkhash, Rudny, Arkalyk, Zhitikara, Aral Sea, Shu, Ayagoz, the village of Zhanbai and the settlements of Kurmangazy (Ganyushkino), Kenkiyak and Kyzylsay.

IN WHICH POPULATED AREAS DID THE AIR REMAIN CLEANER

A low level of air pollution was recorded in a number of large and medium-sized cities:

  • Kokshetau
  • Uralsk
  • Taraz
  • Kyzylorda
  • Ekibastuz
  • Zhanaozen
  • Stepnogorsk

The category with low pollution also included other cities, villages and towns, including Aksu, Lisakovsk, Shchuchinsk, Kulsary, the settlements of Burabay and Bestobe, as well as the villages of Akay, Burlin and Shieli.
