Ticks have bitten more than 1,200 people in a region neighbouring Kazakhstan.

Since the start of the season in the Orenburg region of Russia over 1,200 people have suffered from tick bites, including more than 450 children. Cases have been recorded in all municipalities of the region, which borders the West Kazakhstan, Aktobe and Kostanay regions.

WHERE THE MOST CASES WERE RECORDED

According to the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor, the highest number of reports was recorded in Orenburg, Novotroitsk, Buzuluk, Orsk and the Orenburg district.

Tick attachment cases have been recorded in all municipalities of the region.

Specialists examined more than 2,500 ticks. 83 of the insects were found to have borreliosis pathogens, and four others were found to carry the tick-borne encephalitis virus.

WHAT MEASURES DO EXPERTS RECOMMEND

Rospotrebnadzor recommends wearing closed clothing when spending time outdoors, using repellents, and checking yourself and your loved ones every 15–20 minutes.

Specialists also advise checking pets after walks and seeking medical help immediately if an attached tick is found.
