Three suspects have been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility (TDF) as part of the criminal case into the deaths of six workers during work in a sewer manhole on the premises of an enterprise in the village of Zholaman, Aktogai district, Pavlodar region.
WHAT IS KNOWN
According to the Pavlodar Regional Police Department, officers from the investigation department are establishing all the circumstances of the incident and carrying out the necessary investigative measures. Three suspects have been detained and placed in the TDF.
The police are not disclosing further details of the criminal case, citing Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the interests of the investigation.
WHAT CASE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION
The police are conducting a pre-trial investigation under Part 4 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of labour safety rules").
A special commission has been set up to establish the causes and circumstances of the accident.
The commission has been tasked with conducting a full and objective investigation, establishing the causes of the accident, and developing measures to prevent similar incidents.
Aqtogai Milk LLP has also reported on measures to support the families of the deceased workers and the injured man. The company has provided financial assistance, will maintain salary payments for the deceased workers until the end of the current year, and will settle their loan obligations.
In addition, the enterprise will cover the costs of maintaining and educating the minor children of the deceased until they reach adulthood.
CONTEXT
On 20 July, an accident occurred on the premises of Aqtogai Milk LLP in the Aktogai district of Pavlodar region, in which 6 people died. Another man was hospitalised with moderate carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to preliminary data, the workers were repairing an electric pump in a sewer manhole. The youngest victim was 16 years old.
