In Petropavlovsk, a case related to the construction of a road overpass is under investigation. According to the investigation, the damage to the state could exceed 2 billion tenge.

WHAT HAPPENED

The Department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) for the North Kazakhstan Region (NKR) is conducting an investigation into the theft of funds allocated for the construction of a road overpass in Petropavlovsk.

In August 2023, the municipal state institution "Department of Housing and Communal Services, Passenger Transport and Roads of the Akimat of Petropavlovsk" signed a contract with BUKA LLP. The total contract value was 5.4 billion tenge.

WHAT THE INVESTIGATION ESTABLISHED

According to the AFM, during the execution of the contract, the contractor systematically fell behind the approved work schedule.

According to the investigation, the director of the contractor, in collusion with officials of the client, arranged for the preparation and signing of certificates containing false information about the actual volume of work completed. Based on these documents, the investigative authorities believe, budget funds may have been transferred to the contractor without sufficient justification.

WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN

By court order, 24 units of vehicles and special equipment have been seized. Their value, according to the investigation, exceeds 270 million tenge. A measure of restraint in the form of detention has been imposed on the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is disclosed in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
