In the village of Amangeldy, Esil District, North Kazakhstan Region, a quarantine has been imposed after a case of rabies was identified in a domestic dog. The restrictions are set for a period of two months.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the North Kazakhstan Region Veterinary Department, the animal aroused suspicion in a local resident after it attacked its owner and attempted to bite him. The concerned owner sought help from veterinarians. The animal was sent for laboratory tests, which confirmed the presence of rabies, reports the Kazinform International News Agency.
After the diagnosis was confirmed, a quarantine regime was introduced in the locality.
WHAT RESTRICTIONS ARE IN PLACE
Strict veterinary measures have been implemented within the village. Animal exhibitions, the sale of animals, as well as their removal and movement beyond the boundaries of the locality are prohibited.
Specialists have carried out disinfection. At the same time, emergency vaccination of domestic animals has begun to prevent the further spread of the infection.
According to Nariman Tasbolatov, Head of the Department of the North Kazakhstan Region Veterinary Department, the imposed restrictive measures may be lifted two months after the vaccination is carried out.
“Currently, the epizootic situation is stable. Planned veterinary measures are being carried out in full,” said Nariman Tasbolatov.
POSSIBLE CAUSE OF INFECTION
According to the Telegram channel “HALYQSTAN”, local residents have noted an increase in the number of foxes in the vicinity of the village. Wild animals can carry the virus and approach people in search of food. It is claimed that the dog’s infection may have occurred after contact with a wild animal.
