The Zhetysu Region Prosecutor's Office has identified violations in the operations of the management company "Khorgos International Centre for Cross-Border Cooperation" related to the illegal charging of Value Added Tax (VAT) to investors. The violations have been rectified, and some funds have been returned.
WHAT THE INSPECTION REVEALED
According to the Zhetysu Region Prosecutor's Office, the inspection was carried out in coordination with the Committee for the Protection of Investors' Rights. It was established that for two years, VAT was illegally charged to 19 investors implementing projects worth over 70 billion tenge when calculating water supply tariffs.
Meanwhile, according to the Tax Code, activities within special economic zones are exempt from VAT. Despite this, the legal requirements were systematically ignored.
As a result of the tax charges, investors incurred additional financial costs. Administrative barriers were created for businesses, affecting the conditions for project implementation.
WHAT MEASURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN
Following the prosecutor's supervision order, the violations have been fully rectified.
"Investors have been refunded illegally collected funds amounting to 1 million tenge, and those responsible have been held accountable," the statement said.
THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE'S POSITION
The regional prosecutor's office stated that any attempts to pressure investors or violate their rights will be stopped.
The department also urged entrepreneurs facing administrative barriers to contact them by phone: +7 (771) 131-04-44 or via the Call Centre at 115.
