The Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) of the Zhetysu region is conducting an investigation into the embezzlement of budget funds during the construction of residential buildings.

According to the agency's press service, in 2021, the client and the contracting organisation entered into contracts for the construction of two multi-storey buildings totalling 1.7 billion tenge.

Despite the signed certificates of completed work, part of the construction and installation work was not actually carried out. Of the planned nine storeys, only seven were built. At the same time, no work was carried out on heating, water supply, or electric lighting in the buildings, and there was also no exterior finishing.

"Thus, the construction has not been completed, and the deadlines for commissioning have been missed. As a result, the damage caused to the state exceeded 152 million tenge," the statement said.

By court order, the developer's property has been seized. The director of the contracting organisation, as well as employees of the company who carried out technical supervision of the construction, are suspects in the case. The investigation is ongoing.

Recall, earlier it was reported that dozens of shareholders of the capital's residential complex "Sirocco Club" claim there is an attempt to deprive them of their rights to already paid-for apartments. Despite full payment for the housing and the availability of all supporting documents, people are not being accepted into the new housing cooperative, creating risks of resale of their property.
