In Zhanaozen, police officers uncovered an alleged illegal circulation of petroleum products and seized a four-tonne container of petroleum products at a private base in the industrial zone of the Rauan microdistrict. A criminal case has been opened into the matter.
WHERE THE PETROLEUM PRODUCTS WERE FOUND
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the operational measures were carried out by officers of the Police Department (PD) of Mangistau Region. The operation involved the organised crime unit and officers of a special police subunit.
On the territory of a private base in the industrial zone of the Rauan microdistrict, police officers detained a man. During the search they found and seized a four-tonne capacity container filled with petroleum products.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE CRIMINAL CASE
A criminal case has been opened into the matter. Law enforcement agencies are currently establishing the origin of the seized petroleum products and clarifying all the circumstances of what happened.
CONTEXT
Earlier in Mangistau Region, the National Security Committee (NSC) shut down the activity of an organised group suspected of illegally exporting petroleum products. According to the agency, in 2019–2023 more than 160,000 tonnes of petroleum products were exported abroad through one of the companies. The total value of the transactions was estimated at approximately 45 billion tenge.
In connection with this case, the Aktau City Court sentenced five members of the organised group to 8 years' imprisonment on charges of economic smuggling and participation in an organised group. The alleged organiser of the scheme is on the international wanted list.
