A video has been circulating on social media in which a resident of the village of Krasny Yar, Akmola Region, claimed that road workers were "painting" the asphalt ahead of the akim's visit. The office of the akim of the Krasnoyarsk rural district explained that a specialised protective material had been applied to the road surface, not paint.
WHY THE VIDEO APPEARED
In the video, a woman asks workers why they are "painting the asphalt". According to her, the work was supposedly linked to the upcoming Builder's Day and the expected visit of the regional akim.
The workers featured in the video replied that they did not know the exact reason for carrying out the work and were merely following instructions from management.
The video is currently no longer available on the social network TikTok.
WHAT LOCAL AUTHORITIES SAID
According to the office of the akim of the Krasnoyarsk rural district, at the end of June 2026, the contracting organisation Beton Sever LLP carried out the installation of an asphalt concrete surface on a section of Internatsionalnaya Street between 50 Let Oktyabrya and Shkolnaya streets.
Later, staff from the branch of the National Centre for Quality of Road Assets took core samples for laboratory testing. Following the inspection, specialists identified individual defects in the road surface.
WHY THE MATERIAL WAS APPLIED
The akimat reported that after the defects were identified, the contracting organisation decided to apply, at its own expense, a specialised protective material called Silcoat, which the author of the video mistook for paint.
It is reported that Silcoat is a bitumen-polymer protective compound designed to seal asphalt concrete surfaces. The material fills small cracks and pores, prevents moisture penetration, protects the surface from ultraviolet radiation and temperature fluctuations, and helps improve wear resistance and extend the service life of the road.
WHAT ELSE THE AKIMAT CLARIFIED
Local authorities also stated that the material used has the necessary certificates of conformity and a safety data sheet. According to the akimat, this confirms its quality, safety, and suitability for use in road works in accordance with current regulatory requirements.
