At the “Türkistan-1” mosque in the Karasai district of the Almaty region, teacher Düisekhan Nurberdi was dismissed from his post after a video circulated on social media showing him using physical force against teenagers during classes.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK), the incident occurred in early June during the summer courses in religious literacy “Imani zhaz”. CCTV footage shows the teacher striking pupils several times in the classroom at the mosque.
The SAMK reported that a conflict had arisen between the teenagers beforehand. Düisekhan Nurberdi tried to stop it and call the pupils to discipline, but according to the administration, he gave in to his emotions and committed actions that do not conform to pedagogical ethics.
HOW THE MOSQUE MANAGEMENT RESPONDED
After the incident, a special meeting was held at the mosque. The teacher admitted his mistake and apologised to the pupils’ parents.
The parents wrote statements saying they had no claims against the teacher and provided the relevant video recordings. At the same time, the administration’s leadership decided to dismiss Düisekhan Nurberdi from his post as mosque teacher.
