The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Kazakhstan has launched a nationwide campaign “We are nearby. Ask us” on the social network Threads. Citizens can report cases of domestic violence, receive legal advice and find out where to turn for psychological and other assistance.

HOW TO SEEK HELP

The campaign is aimed at people who are subjected to domestic violence but for various reasons do not dare to contact the police. Eyewitnesses of such cases and citizens who need legal advice can also get in touch.

To take part, it is enough to leave a message on the official page of the Administrative Police Committee of the MIA on Threads.

Specialists will provide advice and the necessary explanations. If a message reveals a threat to life or health, the information will be promptly passed to territorial police units for response measures.

WHERE TO FIND HELPLINES AND CRISIS CENTRES

As part of the campaign, an information resource zhanyndamyz.netlify.app has also been created. It brings together current helpline numbers, contacts of crisis centres and support services in the regions of Kazakhstan.

Using the resource, citizens can find organisations where they can turn for psychological, legal and other assistance.

WHO IS TAKING PART IN THE CAMPAIGN

Government bodies, public organisations, crisis centres and family support centres are being involved in the initiative. They will help to review incoming messages within their remit.

The MIA urges citizens not to keep silent about cases of domestic violence and to seek help if it is needed by themselves or by the people around them.
