In Kazakhstan, following the results of the first quarter of 2026, the crime rate has decreased by 9%, which corresponds to a reduction of 2,150 crimes compared to the same period last year. The trend covers all key categories of offences and is accompanied by an increase in their detection rate. This data was announced at a board meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
HOW CRIME RATES HAVE CHANGED
According to Polisia.kz, a decrease has been recorded across all main types of crimes, including acquisitive-violent offences, property crimes and crimes against the person.
A reduction has been noted in the number of crimes committed by repeat offenders, minors, and those under the influence of alcohol, as well as in public places and in domestic settings. At the same time, the detection rate has increased across all categories.
WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH INTERNET FRAUD
The report separately highlights a decrease in internet fraud. The detection rate for such crimes has increased. There has been a reduction in the number of cases related to account hacking, cryptocurrency transactions, online loans and fake internet resources.
WHAT ROLE DO PREVENTION AND ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES PLAY
During the reporting period, over 3.6 million administrative offences were suppressed. The department noted that this helped prevent them from escalating into more serious crimes.
Under the principle of 'Taza Kazakhstan', over 722,000 offences were identified, and more than 3,000 unauthorised rubbish dumps were eliminated. In the area of road safety, over 3 million traffic violations were recorded, accompanied by a decrease in the number of deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents.
WHAT INSTRUCTIONS DID THE MINISTER GIVE
The head of the MIA, Yerzhan Sadenov, emphasised that the key guideline remains the principle of 'Law and Order', enshrined at the constitutional level. According to him, this ideology should become the foundation in all spheres of life.
The head of the department instructed:
- to strengthen preventive work with the participation of state bodies and society;
- to develop digital tools, including elements of artificial intelligence;
- to improve the detection rate of crimes, including those from previous years;
- to enhance the quality of pre-trial investigations and ensure compensation for damages to victims.
Particular attention was paid to combating cattle rustling, which is linked to protecting the incomes of rural residents.
HOW DISCIPLINE AND CONTROL WITHIN THE MIA SYSTEM ARE CHANGING
Among the priorities, strengthening service discipline and improving the level of staff training were also outlined. Managers were instructed to ensure strict control over personnel and the inevitability of accountability for violations.
Following the meeting, reports from territorial divisions were heard. Shortcomings in work were noted, and tasks were set to address them and further strengthen law and order.
