Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev commented on the incident of carbon monoxide poisoning on a train at Almaty-2 station, in which 52 people were injured. According to him, the carriage belonged to a private company, and the investigation is in its final stages.

WHAT THE MINISTER SAID

According to Nurlan Sauranbayev, the contract was concluded with a private company that provided the carriage for the journey.

"It was cold inside, so a heating system that emits carbon dioxide was installed," the minister explained at a briefing in the Senate.

He also added that the investigation is currently nearing completion.

LEGAL CONSEQUENCES

The Minister of Transport noted that the owners of the carriage will face legal responsibility for the incident. In the near future, according to him, a decision will be made in accordance with current legislation.

"The carriage has been taken out of service. The owners will face appropriate punishment," added Nurlan Sauranbayev.

CONTEXT

For context, in December 2025, 52 people, including children, were injured as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning in one of the train carriages at Almaty-2 station.

It was later revealed that the carriages were provided to a film studio for the filming of the South Korean series "ROAD".

13 ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene. Ten children received medical assistance, and two were placed in intensive care. The remaining victims were discharged for outpatient treatment after examination.

JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (KTZ) stated that it has no connection to the incident, as the train does not belong to JSC "Passenger Transport" and was provided by a private carrier.
