Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova commented on the attack on medical workers in the emergency department of the city hospital in Ekibastuz. She stated that such incidents require a principled assessment from law enforcement agencies and society.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE HOSPITAL
It is reported that early in the morning, a local resident, accompanied by two acquaintances who were intoxicated, sought medical assistance.
After a remark from the doctor, a conflict broke out between the parties, during which three men used physical force.
As a result, a doctor and a nurse were injured; they have been hospitalised with injuries. The suspects have been detained, and a criminal case has been opened.
THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH'S POSITION
Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova stressed that cases of violence against medical workers are unacceptable and require a firm response.
She reminded that from 7 March, liability for violence and intimidation of medical workers has been strengthened in Kazakhstan.
"I appeal to all citizens. A doctor, a paramedic, a nurse – these are people who come to help in the most difficult moments. People's health and lives depend on their work. Medical workers fulfil their professional duty at any time of day, saving lives and providing assistance in the most critical cases. In such moments, they must be protected, not met with aggression," the minister wrote on her page on Instagram.
WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN
The minister also stated that work to enhance the protection of medical workers will continue both at the legislative level and in terms of ensuring safety in medical organisations.
WHAT LIABILITY IS PROVIDED
Attacking a medical worker in Kazakhstan carries criminal liability — up to 12 years in prison.
