The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Kazakhstan has warned citizens about security measures amid attacks on civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. In Riyadh, after several strikes on the airport, fatalities and injuries were reported.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to Al Jazeera, on 10 October, a strike on King Khalid Airport killed 12 people, with more than 300 injured. Later, the Indian embassy reported the death of another of its citizens from injuries sustained during the Saturday attack. The total death toll from that attack reached 13 people.
On 11 October, the airport came under a new attack. As a result, one person was killed and another 11 were injured. The deceased was a citizen of Pakistan residing in Saudi Arabia.
The strike hit terminals 3 and 4, which serve domestic flights. After the incident, the authorities began assessing the damage and checking the security of the airport's infrastructure.
Responsibility for the attacks preceding the strike on 11 October was claimed by the Yemeni Houthis. This refers to an armed group involved in the conflict in Yemen.
WHAT RECOMMENDATIONS DID THE KAZAKHSTAN MFA GIVE
The ministry addressed citizens of the country located in Saudi Arabia and recommended exercising heightened precautions, following the instructions of local authorities and avoiding crowded places.
Kazakhstanis were also advised not to visit airports unless absolutely necessary, to check flight statuses with airlines in advance and, where possible, to postpone non-urgent trips.
In the event of an emergency, citizens of Kazakhstan are advised to contact the republic's diplomatic missions in Riyadh and Jeddah.
