Wildberries intends to launch two large logistics complexes in Almaty and Astana in Q1 2027. The total area of the new warehouses will be around 260,000 sq m. This was reported by Minister of Trade Arman Shakkaliyev.
WHAT FACILITIES WILL BE BUILT
Arman Shakkaliyev said that Wildberries will build a logistics complex of 160,000 sq m in Astana and around 100,000–103,000 sq m in Almaty. The minister noted that information about the construction of these facilities emerged long before the attacks on the marketplace's infrastructure in Russia.
The company currently rents around 46,000 sq m of warehouse space in Kazakhstan. However, according to the minister, no official requests for additional warehouses have been submitted to the Ministry of Trade.
What was said about cooperation with the company
According to Arman Shakkaliyev, warehouse rental is a commercial matter between companies and does not require state approval.
The minister also noted that, in his view, domestic marketplaces should be used to the fullest extent possible. He added that the current situation has highlighted the importance of guarantees and trust in the trade sector.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT BUSINESS LOSSES
Discussing the situation around the attacks on Wildberries warehouses in Russia, Arman Shakkaliyev stated that there is no final data yet on the losses suffered by Kazakh businesses.
According to him, damage estimates circulating on social media, including claimed figures of 1–1.5 billion tenge, have not been confirmed. The minister stressed that such incidents require investigation and that the company itself will be able to provide accurate information.
The minister also said that, at present, no support measures have been envisaged for Kazakh businesses affected by the situation surrounding the Russian marketplace.
CONTEXT
It was previously reported that the RWB group, which operates the Wildberries marketplace, had begun searching for warehouse facilities in Kazakhstan. According to sources, the company is considering renting up to 100,000 sq m of warehouse space and is also redistributing goods between logistics facilities following drone attacks on warehouses in Russia.
From 18 July, Wildberries warehouses in several Russian regions were subjected to attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Among the affected facilities are logistics complexes in St Petersburg, the Moscow region, Crimea, the Tambov and Voronezh regions, as well as in the Stavropol and Krasnodar territories.
