In the Atyrau Region, a group of citizens used physical force against police officers while they were performing their official duties. As a result of the incident, two law enforcement officers were injured, and a criminal case has been opened.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Police Department of the Atyrau Region, the incident occurred on 3 April at approximately 22:00 in the Makat District.
While carrying out their official duties, the officers encountered aggressive behaviour from a group of citizens. During the conflict, the participants in the incident used physical force.
As a result of the incident, two officers sustained injuries.
Details regarding the nature of the injuries have not been specified in the materials.
POLICE RESPONSE
As clarified by the Police Department of the Atyrau Region, all participants in the incident have been identified, detained, and arrested.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 380 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Threat or violent acts against a representative of authority"). A pre-trial investigation is underway.
Under current legislation, this article provides for the following penalties:
- restriction of liberty for a term of 2 to 15 years;
- or a fine of up to 4,000 MCI (approximately 17.3 million tenge).
Incidentally, a police officer was previously subjected to an assault in Kostanay after reprimanding a group of men for violating public order.
A case was opened against the attackers under the article concerning the use of violence against a representative of authority. Initially, the court imposed a restriction of liberty, but following a protest by the General Prosecutor's Office, the court changed the punishment to actual imprisonment.
