For a bribe of 5 million, an official from Aktau was convicted

A sentence has been passed in the Aktau City Court against the head of the State Institution "Department of Construction, Architecture and Urban Planning of the Mangystau Region"

According to the press service of the Aktau City Court, the defendant M., as head of the State Institution "Department of Construction, Architecture and Urban Planning of the Mangystau Region", received a bribe in the amount of 5 million tenge from a representative of the LLP A. 

The bribe was intended to assist the LLP in concluding a contract with a contractor for the provision of technical supervision services during the construction of a school of fine arts for 260 places in Fort-Shevchenko, as well as for signing certificates of services rendered and general patronage.

"When imposing a sentence on the defendant M., the court took into account the mitigating circumstance of criminal liability and punishment – the presence of minor dependants. When imposing a sentence on the defendant A., the court took into account the mitigating circumstance of criminal liability and punishment – sincere repentance, admission of guilt, and the presence of young children", the statement reads.

As a result, the court found the head of the department guilty under Article 366, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Receiving a bribe" and sentenced her to imprisonment for a term of 3 years and 6 months, with a lifetime ban from working in the civil service. 

The representative of the LLP was convicted under Article 367, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Giving a bribe" and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 2 years, with a lifetime ban from working in the civil service.
